Pay It No Mind
I've put a lot of thought into needlepoint as a "granny craft," and that has led to this series of canvases. Needlepoint is for everyone, and this series celebrates just how badass our grandmothers are.
This canvas is in honor of Marsha P "pay it no mind" Johnson, who was a leader in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights during the 1960s and '70s. Based in NYC, Johnson was on the front lines at the 1969 raid at the Stonewall Inn and became an important advocate for homeless and LGBTQ+ youth, those affected by H.I.V. and AIDS, and gay and transgender rights. She loved to wear flower crowns, and her motto was "pay it no mind" - her frequent reply when someone would ask her about her gender identity.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this canvas will be donated to OUT Maine.
"At OUT Maine, we have an ambitious goal: to help Maine’s diverse queer youth thrive by demonstrating how much they matter."
The canvas is hand painted on 18 mesh and measures about 5"x5".
Base price is for the canvas alone. May be kitted with 3-ply Colonial Persian wool or Pepper Pot silk - please choose the appropriate option for your choice.
Your canvas will arrive with fabric bias tape finished edges, but the fabric design may not match any in the sample picture.
